Data Privacy and Confidentiality

ALL HOSPITAL STAFF including students and clinical instructors, researchers, etc. shall be aware of their responsibilities for safeguarding patient confidentiality by accomplishing the J.R. Borja General Hospital Non-Disclosure Agreement Form;

Staff shall keep in confidence all information that pertains to patients. and shall refrain from unnecessarily accessing, using, or disclosing confidential patient-protected health information;

Handling of Confidential Patient Protected Health Information such as accessing, using, and disclosing confidential patient-protected health information shall be an essential job function of certain positions;

If an employee’s primary position involves access, use, or disclosure of patient-protected health information/records, the employee shall receive additional training and education covering applicable privacy and security safeguards, policies, and procedures.
