Outpatient Department (OPD)

The Outpatient Department (OPD) is an important part of the hospital designed to treat individuals who have health problems and require diagnostic tests but are stable and do not warrant admission.

The Outpatient Department is an integral part of J.R. Borja General Hospital operations and is under the management of a Department Head who are a licensed Physician and a diplomate in a medical specialty. The Department Head is in turn directly supervised by the Chief of Clinical Services of the Medical Division.

Organizational Structure

General Functions

  • Consultation with medical specialists, examination, and investigation
  • Treatment on a same-day basis
  • Minor procedures
  • Follow-up review consultation and ongoing case management
  • Patient screening prior to surgery - perioperative services
  • Health education or counseling sessions for patients and families
  • Referral of patients to other units or disciplines for ongoing care and treatment
  • Referral for admission to inpatient services

 

Functions of Specific Service Areas

  • Triage Unit
    • Assess and prioritize individuals who seek medical attention in the OPD and assign them to specific specializations/departments.
  • Chronic Care Unit
    • Provide treatment for minor surgical injuries including removal of sutures;
    • Urethral catheterization;
    • Nasogastric tube
  • Telepsychiatry Unit
    • Provide Telepsychiatric consultation and assessment of psychiatric clients through video conferencing with the affiliated psychiatrist;
    • Specialize in the treatment of mental disorders, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder;
    • Educate family members regarding their patient’s condition and medications and encourage the involvement of the whole family in the management of their patient;
    • Provide counseling and debriefing to clients who experienced traumatic events.
  • Animal Bite Treatment Center (ABTC)
    • Assess the severity and category of the wound from an animal bite;
    • Administer rabies vaccine and rabies immunoglobulin to patients requiring immunization;
    • Counsel and provide health education to animal bite patients;
    • Administer anti-tetanus
  • PhilHealth Konsulta Provider (PKP) Unit
    • Enroll patients in the primary care benefit package of PhilHealth;
    • Coordinate referrals to other healthcare providers in the healthcare delivery system;
    • Provide diagnostic tests and medications available in the PKP
